Still his question remained unanswered. And to the point that it left such a cruel lack of self-concern its wake; this man was either complete fool, or utterly overpowered; neither of which was of worry to him, as he knew Aizen was likely more than the man that this being ever was.
[ —if he was a m a n at all. ]
”Your very presence is an irritation. Unless inclined to give me your name, I suggest you leave.”
A curve of a distorted smile, embellished by the essence of mockery, masking the hint of intrigue beneath. He was aware very much of the boundary he was stepping across in pestering this hollow, this – ah, Espada of sorts he believed, but there could be no real danger. Not yet.
They were both equally as inquisitive as the other, were they not? Knowledge was the source of all curiosities, after all. The other should not be able to resist his compliance if he gave a name. An alias.
He could tell almost immediately that the guy wasn’t from around here. Not exactly a threat, per say as of now, but the dude was baring some sort of Mad Hatter style and a goatee which clearly outdated any average Japanese modern attire. And the ears. Those pointed ears were near animalistic. Man, these guys were getting weirder these days. Maybe this one had quite a story.
”Wouldn’t be the first time I was told that. You’re not from around Japan, are you?”
❝From Japan? That would be absurd. Of course not.❞
At the attention to his ears, Mephisto raised a brow, as if expecting such a factor to contribute to the boy’s reason for saying it. Alas, the jester was mindful of other things, so he moved a hand to remove his hat; formal introductions are always in order, are they not?
The sounds of light steps behind him were better left attended and no longer ignored. The Cuatro was significantly intrigued after catching sight of his follower from the corner of his eye— an appearance that suggested a very, bright judge of character.
”—It is not wise to follow an Espada down a corridor, nor trespass Aizen-sama’s quarters. Do state why you are here.”
❝It seems I have been caught~.❞
His tone was false, if nothing but playful in any sense, and the demon waved a hand in a childish manner. Of course he had made his presence known – would he be so foolish as to let himself be discovered on purpose?
❝I do apologize. By all means, do not allow me to disturb you.❞
To put it simply, he hadn’t the slightest idea of what a ‘shinigami’ – dare he apply that such term – was, until recently. These spiritual entities differed significantly from the mortal solidarity of regular humans. Coupled with that issue, was Mephisto's curiosity in actually possessing the ability to see them.
